Chimerageist is unlocked by capturing one of every fiend in the Calm Lands. There are 9 fiends in total to capture:
Skoll Nebiros Flame Flan Shred Anacondaur Ogre Coeurl Chimera Brain Malboro
The other less efficient way to farm Return Spheres is by bribing certain monsters. This is very costly, however, so it’s not necessarily the best way to go. That said, here’s what you can bribe:
What Are Return Spheres Used For?
Return Spheres allow a character to return to any already-activated node on the Sphere Grid. It doesn’t matter how far away it is, so long as it has already been turned on, a Return Sphere will bring you back to it. This is super helpful if you want to bring a character down someone else’s path on the grid really quickly to pick up an ability or some extra stats. If you have x2 Return Spheres (or more) you can divert any character away for a bit, and then bring them right back with no real trouble. These Spheres are also helpful when trying to max your stats or complete the Sphere Grid – because they allow you to move around quickly & without using your Sphere Levels to do so. You can also use a Return Sphere to customize the First Strike ability onto a weapon. First Strike does just what it sounds like: allows the user to strike first. This can be a lifesaver against certain endgame bosses, such as Dark Yojimbo, who love opening the battle with insta-kill attacks. You’ll need x1 Return Sphere to customize First Strike into an empty weapon slot. And just like any other item in FFX, Rikku can use Return Spheres in her many mixes. Here are a few: Final Elixir (Hi-Potion + Return Sphere): Restores the party to full HP and MP, as well as removes all negative status effects and fully revives KO’d members FreedomX (Three Stars + Return Sphere): Reduces ability costs to zero for the whole party Hot Spurs (Elixir + Return Sphere): Doubles Overdrive gain for one party member
Is It Worth Farming These Things?
Yes. Chimerageist is one of the easiest, if not the easiest Monster Arena creation – not only to unlock, but also to defeat. Further, by farming this creature you’ll get more than just Return Spheres. It can also drop weapons and the occasional Dark Matter. There’s really no downside. But considering all the Sphere Grid movement-focused spheres, Return Spheres are one of those items that are always helpful to have on hand. Take an hour or so to get a bundle of them and you’ll always have a quick way to move around the Sphere Grid to get what you want, when you want.
