Final Fantasy XIV really has something for everyone: gambling, racing, giant boss monsters, fishing expeditions… If none of those things interest you (or if they do, and you just want to look good doing it) then maybe the Fashion Report is for you. It’s essentially a weekly fashion competition that takes place in the Manderville Gold Saucer. Every week will present you with a new theme, and you get three attempts every week to earn the highest score possible. Scores above a certain threshold will be rewarded with generous amounts of Manderville Gold Saucer points, and earning top marks rewards you with a special title. This can give you a significant boost if you’re farming those points, and they can be exchanged for fantastic rewards.
How Do I Get Started With The Fashion Report?
You can start the Fashion Report literally as soon as you have access to the Gold Saucer. This can be done by speaking to the “Well-heeled Youth” in Ul’dah at level fifteen. Once you’re in the Gold Saucer, you just need to find an NPC named Lewena – she’ll give you a quest called “Passion for Fashion”. This will eventually lead you to an NPC named Masked Rose, who’ll be the guy judging you every week. Once you know the theme, you’ll have to go out and find gear that might match it. Then once you’ve assembled your outfit, you can present yourself to Masked Rose and he’ll give you a score out of 100. And you don’t have to actually wear the gear – if you’d rather just glamour it onto what you’re already wearing, that’ll work too.
The Fashion Report Process
You get three attempts at judging every week. So if you want to actually play the game (and experiment to see which items match up to the theme) then you’ve got a few opportunities to get the highest score possible. But if you’re just looking for the most efficient way to complete it every week, look no further than this Twitter account. They post a simple guide to hitting the different score thresholds every week. Whether you want to get the full 100pts or just make enough to get the MGP rewards, they’ll cover it. The guides from that Twitter account (@kaiyokostar) also cover where to obtain the items you need for the score you want, and which color they need to be dyed. Sometimes this will be as cheap and easy as visiting an NPC vendor. Some items will drop from dungeons or trials, and some will be crafted by other players. Unless you can craft the item yourself, or request it from a friend, you’re going to have to go to the Market Board. And in that case you can end up spending quite a bit on the Fashion Report – so bear that in mind every week! My personal recommendation is to get started on the Fashion Report early. Like as soon as the Twitter account posts the guide, get to it – this way you can hopefully avoid sellers ramping up their Market Board prices to profit from the rush. One time, I managed to grab a basic item from the Market Board for about 10,000k in the morning. When my friend looked again later, it was ten times the price! Be the early bird in this situation. Just one final note on this topic: while you can certainly start the Fashion Report around level fifteen, you may not have that many clothing options available to you just yet. You won’t lose out on anything (except time) by taking part, but you may struggle to get to certain vendors, or afford pricey pieces of the outfit.
How Do The Rewards Work?
So – you’ll be rewarded with Manderville Gold Saucer points for competing in the Fashion Report. And you’ll be granted 10k points for simply taking part with your first attempt, regardless of score. If you earn 80 points or above, you’ll also get a healthy 60k. Altogether that’s not a bad chunk of MGP for relatively little work if you’re following the Twitter guide. And if you want to take it a little further, 100 points will reward you with the “Fashion Leader” title (and a peculiarly intense cutscene with Masked Rose) alongside the MGP rewards. Honestly, it’s probably not worth going for 100 points once you’ve got the title. You can earn the full MGP reward every week just by getting 80, and that can quite often be significantly cheaper. If you’re desperate for that Fashion Leader title, I’d recommend waiting for a week where Kaiyoko Star includes an “Easy 100pts” section in the guide. This can save you a fair bit of gil and effort. But MGP isn’t the only thing Fashion Report rewards you with. Next to Masked Rose, you can find a vendor named Kasumi, who’ll sell you an expanding selection of goods as you progress further in the Fashion Report. Unfortunately there’s no way to see how far you are in Fashion Report progression, so you’ll just have to check back in with Kasumi every now and then. Kasumi sells dyes, furniture, glamour items, and an emote that can’t be found anywhere else. You’ll have to get familiar with the Fashion Report if you want to see all of her wares!
Is The Fashion Report Worth Doing?
If you want those Manderville Gold Saucer Points without grinding every GATE there is, yes. If you do the weekly Fashion Report in combination with Khloe’s Wondrous Tails activity, you could be netting 100k MGP per week, and that’s basically guaranteed. You could be looking at much higher numbers if you get lucky with the Wondrous Tails journal. The Manderville Gold Saucer offers a huge amount of totally unique rewards. Hairstyles, appearances, emotes, and some of the coolest mounts in the game are available to purchase from the rewards vendors there. Doing the Fashion Report could be part of your shortcut to those epic rewards! There are no benefits to doing it consecutively every single week – so if you just want to do it every now and then, feel free. The only thing you might miss out on is progression in Kasumi’s shop, but that’s easily earned anyway. You can also safely skip a week if getting the items together to complete it is cost prohibitive. And that’s basically everything you need to know to get the most out of the Fashion Report. If you’re not farming MGP or collecting every single furniture item, you can leave it alone. But it’s a low-effort & safe way to slowly earn some of the coolest rewards in the game, so don’t sleep on it!
