As with most materials of this type, Gigantoad Skin doesn’t have any special requirements to drop. You just have to kill the monster that wears it and you’ll get a chance at obtaining it. It’s used fairly often in various crafting jobs, usually around levels 30 – 43. As such, there’s always a demand for it as new crafters emerge, looking to complete their synthesis logs or make a quick buck from the Market Board. Gigantoad Skin is, in my experience, one of the easier materials to farm. It also comes with the added bonus of removing more of those hideous enemy models from the game world (Seriously. They just look wrong.) In order for Gigantoad Skin to be used in crafting, it has to be turned into Toad Leather by a Leatherworker. This requires a Leatherworker at level 26 or above. Until Gigantoad Skin has undergone this process, it’s useless for crafting by any other class.
Which Enemies Drop Gigantoad Skin?
Gigantoad Skins are actually fairly evenly distributed throughout A Realm Reborn. And you genuinely can’t miss the enemies they come from – those huge, slimy hulks with their stretchy tongues will literally pull you towards them as you ride by. Gigantoad Skins are dropped by Gigantoads (surprise) and Inflated Nixs found in Eastern La Noscea. Dreamtoads in the East Shroud drop them too, and Western Thanalan has a bunch of drops in the form of Giggling Gigantoads, Hekets, and Laughing Toads. Or finally, you can kill Nixs in Mor Dhona too. Since there are a multitude of drop locations for this particular item I’ve included a list of enemies and their map coordinates here. Gigantoad Skins are also dropped by enemies found in dungeons like Aurum Vale and The Keeper of the Lake. However I don’t recommend dungeons for farming (they’re simply not efficient enough), so I haven’t included them in the coordinate list below: Gigantoad, Eastern La Noscea (X:14.9, Y: 28:7) Inflated Nix, Eastern La Noscea (X:34.9, Y: 31.7) Dreamtoad, East Shroud (X: 25.5, Y:18.6) Giggling Gigantoad, Western Thanalan (X:14.6, Y:6.1) Heket, Western Thanalan (X:15.8, Y: 6.1) Laughing Toad, Western Thanalan (X:14.5, Y:5.9) Nix, Mor Dhona (X:15.5, Y: 10.4)
Where’s The Best Place To Farm Gigantoad Skin?
There’s actually one clear winner for this. By far, the easiest spot to farm tons of Gigantoad Skin is just north of Vesper Bay, in Western Thanalan. You can just run circles around the cave the Toads are located in and they’ll respawn almost with every circuit. If you’re at the point where you can one-shot the enemies, you’ll be raking in Gigantoad Skins in no time. Alternatively, leaving Mor Dhona from the west will bring you straight to a reasonable amount of Nixs to farm. I don’t find this to be quite as efficient as the Vesper Bay method, but in the event you get there and someone’s already running rings around the cave, this is a decent alternative. As always, your success with these methods can be affected by other players on the server and your luck – it’s possible to come out of farming with far less than you expected, even after quite a bit of work.
I Don’t Want To Farm, Where Else Can I Get Gigantoad Skin?
The Market Board is going to be the only other source of Gigantoad Skin if you don’t want to collect it yourself. And prices can vary by surprising amounts. So be prepared to spend if you want those skins. As one final note: Do not buy Gigantoad Skins for crafting unless you’re a Leatherworker. If you’re any other crafting job, you want to buy the finished product: Toad Leather. Buying Gigantoad Skins otherwise will be a waste of your money and time!
