Tetsuya Nomura, the game’s co-director, spoke with 4Gamer (translated by DualShockers) about a number of topics, including side quest content and how the game handles different situations. Nomura said Final Fantasy 7 Remake is “dense” with content, which had been hinted at before.
In fact, the team originally planned much more content for the game than it could handle. Some of it had to be cut to improve optimization. What’s left is, according to Nomura, about as full and long as the main game itself.
Nomura gives one example of side content that has us pretty excited over the possibility of getting to know FF7’s characters that much more: dinner with Jessie at her home. You meet her parents, you share a meal, and you get to know all of Avalanche’s members a lot more this time around.
We wouldn’t have been able to finish the game otherwise. Despite that, the game is quite big, there are many places you can visit, and you can even move around using vehicles at some points.
Certain scenes have been changed to offer more chances of characterization as well. Nomura said one instance is the Shinra raid, where what you do and how fast you climb the stairs affects how the other members of the raid party speak and react.
In other words, yes it’s just part one, but like with the Final Fantasy 7 Remake demo’s combat, there’s a lot more going on under the surface than we might see at first.
